This is because particles in solid ate toghty packed and have minimum sir spaces. Also the particles attract eacg other with the maximum force unlike gas which has lots of spaces and very weak interparticle force.

Answer: in air interparticle space is more and interparticle force of attraction is less. So we can move our hand in air but in case of solid block of wood particles are closely packed that is interparticle space is low but interparticle force of attraction is high. so if we need to break a solid block of wood we need a Karate expert.
