We are able to hear sounds in earth because earth is composed of gases which acts as a medium. Sound requires a medium to travel and these gases become that medium. This is the reason also why we can't hear sounds in space because there is no medium there and only vacuum is present and thus, these gases on earth are the major reason for hearing of sound.
