Colours emitted during burning describes about the combustion
If the combustion occurs where oxygen presence and availability is more , the colour of flame would be blue and it denotes complete combustion
If the flame is yellow and soot (residue) is formed means combustion is occurring in lack of oxygen, i.e incomplete combustion is taking place
It could be clearly observed with the help of Bunsen burner
