This line is actually a part of the poem named as the "The secret of the Machines" written by Rudyard Kipling.

Here he has explained a lot about "modern machinery" and how its works.

He said that these machinery are taken right from their ore bed into the mine sites and they are melted, cast,  wrought and hammered for use.

Then they are cut, filed, tooled and gauged so as to fit into the space of a vehicle, or wherever they are required.

After this, one has to put some oil, water or something similar, to lubricate before the machine gets fit to be used.

In this context, this line of push, haul, push and lift and drive came up.
