Answer:

The short answer is Yes!

The gall bladder has very important purpose in our body. We can survive without it but eventually will get into some deficiency due to improper (fats) fatty acid absorption.

Its primary purpose is to store bile (used for fat emulsification) and provide it to small intestine during a high fat meal, for optimal digestion. When the gallbladder is no longer there, the bile quantity may not be sufficient to digest a high fat meal, resulting in nausea sometimes. The essential fatty acids (omega 3 ) that our body cannot make and needs to be provided via food/nutrition, will not get absorbed and synthesized appropriately. The fat soluble vitamins (Vit E/A/D/K) will not be able to absorbed properly resulting in various issues of skin, hair, constipation, etc to name a few.

One major side effect of gall bladder removal is - high cholesterol ; Cholesterol is used in bile synthesis which is impaired in absence of gall bladder OR liver/gallbladder malfunction.

One proposed solution here is to have bile as oral supplements with every (fat) meals that you consume.

I dont think this information is provided by doctors/surgeon who remove the gall bladder; They simply mention this as a part that can be removed without any issues.

Hope this helps!
