Explanation:
Safe distancing
Teaching, research, study and work space on campus will be set up to help keep users safe, in line with our University risk assessment. This risk assessment has identified control measures that may be needed in each area such as reduced room capacities, prearranged room layouts, increased ventilation and managing the flow of people.
We are managing the number of people in activities and setting space capacities, seeking to maintain 1m distancing in rooms (including laboratories). However this may vary from location to location depending on the other control measures in place.
We will transition to this over the summer, ready for the start of the September term; in the meantime, summer teaching activities will remain subject to current measures.
Face coverings
We ask everyone to consider the needs and feelings of others in our community. Please remember that there are sometimes hidden reasons why people choose to wear face coverings or cannot wear them, or why people might ask those around them to wear them. Our ground rules are:
We encourage staff and students to wear face coverings whilst moving through crowded indoor spaces.
We expect staff and students to wear face coverings in teaching spaces when asked to do so by a member of staff. (No-one will be denied access to a teaching event for not wearing a face covering.)
We require people to wear a face covering where a specific risk assessment (approved by the relevant Executive Dean with their Health & Safety Manager) identifies the need. Signage will indicate where face coverings are required.
The above ground rules do not apply to individuals who are exempt from wearing face coverings.
Ventilation
Ventilation requirements will continue to be met by ensuring an increased airflow in our mechanically ventilated spaces, and reminding staff (through signage in relevant rooms) to open windows in other areas.
Cleaning and hygiene
Enhanced cleaning regimes will remain in place. We all have a responsibility to continue to maintain high personal levels of hygiene, especially by regularly washing our hands. Hand sanitiser and cleaning materials are provided for everyone to use.
Self-isolation
If anyone has COVID-19 symptoms, it’s important to stay at home (or go home immediately), self-isolate, book a coronavirus PCR test, and follow Government and University guidance.
Testing
We encourage all members of the University community to take a twice-weekly lateral flow test, especially those coming onto campus. Lateral Flow home testing kits are available to collect on campus (or through the government webpages).
Anyone testing positive for COVID-19, whether at home or on campus, must let the University know through the COVID report line so we can provide the support that you may need. This also helps us support the NHS track and trace service as needed.
Vaccines
We encourage everyone to take advantage of the free COVID vaccination programme, to help protect both our University and wider communities. Visit our vaccinations page for more information.
