Answer:

Without the atmosphere, there is no oxygen. So, we suffocate and die. This is, however, a limited point of view of life. Our real life is much more than physical life. We are essentially more spiritual than physical. In fact, the universe is more spiritual than physical. That is why we cannot explain everything in the universe in physical terms. Actually, we can live without the atmosphere. The Bible and ancient philosophers speak about life in the spiritual realm. There is no need of oxygen there. This is reinforced by studies on Near Death Experiences, hypnotherapy, and Reincarnation pioneered by Dr. Ian Stevenson of the University of Virginia. There is healing, unlimited awareness, and eternal life in that realm.
