compound means when two or more separate elements are compiled together to form one single unit. this same happens a compound microscope. two or more lens are compiled together to form a single lens.

Hi,
=======:
Here is your answer,
=======:
light microscope that has two converging lens systems: the objective and the eyepiece.
A compound microscope is one in which the light must pass through 2 or more lenses. The typical high school microscope is compound because the image must pass through 3 or 4 lenses (2 or 3 in the objective and one in the ocular) before entering your eye.
A magnifying glass is considered to be a simple microscope becuase it has only one lens.
Hence we can say that the compound here refers to the ability of lens of microscope to magnify the image at a certain level so that we can see the Compound particle of any coarse substance of in bio lab, it's nucleus
