The above quoted statement has been derived from the story, Two Gentleman of Verona, written by A.J.Cronin.Nicola, speaks the above line in reply to a question by the narrator who was visiting Verona. The narrator had previously seen Nicola and his younger brother Jacopo, selling fruits. They were now shining shoes near the fountain in the public square in Verona.Nicola, 13 and Jacopo 12, were two brothers from a rich household, fallen on bad times. They sold fruits, shined shoes, hawked newspapers, guided tourists around town and did various other odd jobs to earn enough money for the treatment of their ailing sister.
