the speaker is here is Nicole and they were doing many jobs such as shining shoes vending fruits Hawking is papers conducting tourist and they can ran errand and if the writer want to buy the tickets for Opera or the name of the good restaurant or a pack of American cigarettes he could easily relied upon them and here the speaker is addressing to the narrator hope this helps you and best of luck for your exam I think so
