We do not observe matter waves in heavy particles because of the following reason:

  • From De Broglie's hypothesis, we know that every particle exhibits a  wave nature with a wavelength λ=h/p, where h is Planck's constant and p is the particle's momentum.
  • For heavy particles, the mass is higher i.e. the momentum is higher.
  • This makes the wavelength of the heavier particles very small.
  • Hence, the matter waves in the case of heavy particles are not significant as it is for lighter particles and therefore cannot be observed.
