series arrangement is not used in domestic circuits because

◾◾ There is voltage division in series circuits. Each component of a series circuit receives a small voltage for a large supply voltage. As a result, the amount of current decreases and the device becomes hot.

All of them.

Every single electrical circuit in the world exhibits aspects of both configurations, which are defined to help in calculation and in thinking about control. They are not two incompatible things.

Every domestic electric light is a series connection of a lamp, a lampholder, some cable, a switch, and some sort of fuse or other overload protection. Almost every house will have several such circuits in parallel.

Quora is awash with questions about fans and capacitors. I don’t know why. I am beginning to think that the desk fans and ceiling fans sold in India are really shoddy and that a manufacturer who made reliable ones would get very rich indeed. These fans mostly have a single phase induction motor. This motor always has two parallel circuits: a main winding and a start winding. But while the main winding consists of a coil connected directly across the supply, the start winding is a series collection of a coil and a phase shift capacitor, so the motor has both series and parallel connections. The whole motor is, of course, in series with a switch, and that series-paralell-series combination will (as we zoom out) will be in parallel with all the other fans, lights, hand driers, vacuum cleaners, televisions, and alarm clocks on the premesis. All of those fans….clocks etc. Are fed through a main isolator, a meter, and a company fuse on the boundary of the property - through means in series. Many such properties are fed in parallel by a substation, whose own infeed at high voltage is a series connection of distribution cables, overload protection and safety isolators. And, inevitably, the power station will feed dozens of such substations, all paralleled up upon the generator.
