We eat food composed of all nutrients like carbohydrates, proteins,
fats, vitamins, minerals and water. After digestion, these are absorbed in
the form of glucose, amino acids, fatty acids etc. What mechanisms are
involved in absorption of digested food and water?

Explanation:

The mechanisms involved in absorption of digested food and water are diffusion and osmosis respectively.

(i) Digested food-through diffusion, e., the process in which molecules move from their region of higher concentration to their region of lower concentration till they are uniformly distributed throughout the available space.

(ii) Water-through osmosis, e., the passage of water from a region of high water concentration through a semi-permeable membrane to a region of low water concentration. In this case, from small intestine (high concentration) to blood low concentration.
