It happens many a times with humans that when do something wrong or a sin they feel guilty, but the point to think is that why did they do something wrong, there may be some reason for that. As in the poem snake poet loved snake and was impressed by his beauty he considered him as his guest and king later on he felt fear from him though it was harmless but because social education taught him that all the snakes are poisonous they must be killed whenever looked, so, he threw a log of wood on him which made the snake vanished quickly. In poem he said he had now something to regret forever. But in my opinion instead of accusing himself for this he must understand that it was not his fault he did that because their was a clash between in his hearts desires and social thoughts.
