SOLUTION

GIVEN

We have a polynomial p(y) = (y + 2)(y -1)

TO DETERMINE

The value of p(y) at y = - 1

EVALUATION

Here the given polynomial is

p(y) = (y + 2)(y -1)

We have to find the value p(y) at y = - 1

Putting y = - 1 we get

p( - 1) = ( - 1 + 2 ) ( - 1 - 1 )

⇒ p( - 1) = 1 × ( - 2 )

⇒ p( - 1 ) = - 2

FINAL ANSWER

The value p(y) at y = - 1 is - 2
