Assuming that you live in Indian subcontinent I can confidently say that the movement of the earth plays a major influencing role on the period of the rainy season. the movement of the earth causes the movement of monsoon winds to travel in the desired direction which is distributed into two main branches which cause rain in two branches: the Arabian Sea branch and Bay of Bengal branch, and as far as suns rays are concerned the north-west winds are influenced largely due to the heat of the land which causes change in pressure in central and south-east Asia
