We have learnt that solids are non compressable but we can compress sponge why?

Sponge has many holes in it and is a porous an a soft material, thus it can be compressed

sponge has small pores in it in which air gets stored in it so when we press it it gets compressed n after we release it gets back to its normal shape. this is becoz it is made up of diff kind of material that is porous
