When an infant child drinks milk it gulps some air too along with it. When they gulp milk and air, the air settles under the milk in the stomach. When the infant's stomach contracts,  it shoots out some excess milk back up which comes out as sour curdled milk when mixed with saliva. That is why care should be taken to ensure slow feeding of milk and to burp the infant during and after the feeding. Care should also be taken to avoid bouncing or jostling an infant immediately after milk intake.
