we know that a ray of light after its first refraction in a prism becomes parallel to the base of prism ?why does this happens only in case of an equilateral prism?

no this not happens in all the case of equilateral prism because when ray of light strikes the surface of equilateral prism...it bends towards normal...and in some case it is parallel to the base prism due to symetry of equilateral triangle...
we know that equilateral prism is symmetrical from all the sides so...ray bends in such a way to maintain its symmetry....I think it may help u to understand better...
