We know that , according to modern periodic table the metallic character increases going down the group,but why potassium is more reactive than sodium even when sodium is at 3 period and potassium is at 2nd period

thus , in the potassium the outermost electron is better shielded from attractive force of the nucleus. it follows , therefore that is the outermost electron is easily lost than in sodium . so potassium can be converted into ionic form more rapidly than sodium . therefore potassium is more reactive than sodium even when sodium is at 3 period and potassium is at 2 period .
