mucous present in oesophagus creates a layer around stomach which contains bicarbonate ions acts against hcl and protects stomach

HCL is secreated by the stomach . stomach als secreates pepsin , mucus . the mucus present in the stomach forms a protective layer around the inner surface of the stomach thus protecting it
