we know that in liquid state the molecules are little bit near comparing to gas. But when we compress the gas in a container, the molecules also comes little bit nearer, then y didn't the gas convert into liquid state. ​

When gas is compressed it changes into liquid or if the temperature is decreased then also it changes its state to liquid.

The compression applies by u is not maximum to change the state of matter from gas to liquid.
