we know that solids have more density than water.Then why ice floats on water ?

ice floats because it is about 9% less dense than liquid water.

Yes its true that solids are more denser than the liquids but when it comes to ice and water its different bcoz when water freezes to form ice the water molecules form a crystalline structure that is maintained by hydrogen bonding so ice becomes 9% less denser than water.Thus, ice floats on water.................
