we put a 100 g biscuit of gold in water taken in a measuring cylinder or we put a 100 g aluminium bar in the measuring cylinder ,will the rise in level of water be same or different in the two cases? give reason

Answer:

The level of  water will same if the vol. is taken as constant.If the vol. changes that will affect the density of both metal and than the water level will be diff. We know generally density of gold is more than aluminium here mass is same but the vol. of gold is less then aluminium to make a 100 g bar so. Water level will more in aluminium. Due to less density od Al and more vol.

Explanation:

Initial water mark on cylinder = 30ml

final water mark on cylinder = 38ml

volume of water displaced = 38 - 30 = 8ml

8ml = 8cm³

density of water = 1g/cm³

mass of water displaced = density*volume = 1 *8 = 8g = 0.008 kg

loss of weight = weight of water displaced = 0.008*9.8 N =0.0784 N

Loss of weight is same as the buoyant force.

So buoyant force is also 0.0784N
