We read in textbooks that plants get nutrition through the roots. But we also read that plants need carbon dioxide and water to make food. Why then do they need other nutrients? After all, we use fertilizers to make plants grow better, but fertilizers provide neither CO2 nor water!

Answer:

Explanation:

Nitrogen is used by plants for lots of leaf growth and good green color. Phosphorous is used by plants to help form new roots, make seeds, fruit and flowers. It's also used by plants to help fight disease. Potassium helps plants make strong stems and keep growing fast.

Just like we humans need different nutrients for different things (like proteins for muscles, vitamins and minerals for immunity and many more) plants also need different nutrients for developing different parts. So fertilizers dont give co2 or water but usually give a solution of NPK (nitrogen phosphorous pottasium). There are different fertilizers but i gave the most common one.
