1) Sea routes are the cheapest modes for travelling.
2) Industries are mainly flourished near the sea for transportation of goods.
3) Many of the countries are connected together because of sea routes.

Geographic reasons for our reliance on sea routes:

  • The Indian subcontinent is bordered on all sides by natural frontiers like vast deserts and large mountain ranges.
  • From the trading point of view, these frontiers forming the land borders between India and other countries are not feasible and affordable to cross over and over again.
  • Thus, land routes are not preferred for international trade.
  • Moreover, India has been naturally gifted with a long coastline having a number of natural ports and harbors.
  • Hence, it is both more affordable and safe to use sea routes for international trade.
