The most common fire extinguisher is water. But water works only when things like wood , paper are burnt . If electrical equipment is on fire, water may conduct electricity and harm those trying to douse the fire .

H2O + electric = electricity : electricity + electricity =

Damage to electrical equipment as well as the workers.

Thank you

Answer:

Pure water is not a conductor of electricity. But when it get mixed or dissolved with other materials, it becomes a good conductor of electricity. Petroleum products and oils have lesser density and float on water. The fire will keep burning and even get worse. So fire extinguishers or sands are used to extinguish electrical fire or fire petroleum products or oil.
