Well, there are a thousand reasons why not to. All it takes is some knowledge about the production of electricity, it affect on environment and the by-products of using electricity by human activities. Here are some reasons why -

It takes a lot of effort from human and lots of resources from earth’s crust to generate electricity. As a saying goes, “We at earth have enough for everyone to eat, but none for anyone’s greed.”

If we waste electricity, it will add to the amount of fossil fuels and other natural resources that are already bring depleted at very high rate. Soon they will exhaust and we will be left wandering in search of new nature to burn.

Producing electricity causes a lot of harmful gasses and degrades a lot of natural resources. Coals get burnt, rivers’ natural flow are disturbed and many a times, the demographic is changed. All this just to generate little amount of electricity for you! Learn to appreciate that.

Not everyone on the planet is equally privileged as you are. Not everyone has access to 24x7 electricity. Many villages are there which haven’t yet seen how electricity looks like. The night is dark for them. If you don’t waste, that electricity can be used to light up their lives.

The efficiency of the electricity generating units is very less. It is near to 40%. It is not yet a good figure. Also the people involved with its production suffer from many problems in their later life.

Only by switching to LED bulbs, which saves electricity as compared to other florescent lamps, India saves nearly 10k crores, annually. That’s 100 billions annually in Indian Rupees.

I hope you might be little more informed about electricity and will try to conserve it.

Thank you for saving electricity...
