We should sensibly use petrol and diesel-like substances as they are fossil fuels and are exhaustive in nature. They are the non-renewable form of energy, and once they are exhausted, they cannot be renewed again.

For example, solar energy is a renewable form of energy, however petrol and diesel are non-renewable. Moreover, burning and consumption of these substances have an adverse impact on the environment and cause many kinds of  pollution.

Human activities have almost depleted all the reserves of these fuels; the remaining amount of fuel will only last for few hundred years or so.
