We take graitational potential energ to increase roortionally with height, but U = -Gm1m2/r. How is that?????

Yes, we take g as constant in problems because we are dealing with very small distances. in U =-Gm1m2/r² ,

For large change in r² U changes slightly because G value is very small (6.67 x 10^-11 N m2/kg2)

And as we are dealing problems with distances in metres only ,g changes very slightly that we can neglect the change. During rocket propulsion g change should. be considered because the distances difference is large.
