Our body needs oxygen to obtain energy to fuel all our living processes. Carbon dioxide is a waste product of that process. The respiratory system, with its conduction and respiratory zones, brings air from the environment to the lungs and facilitates gas exchange both in the lungs and within the cells.

We all take oxygen and leave Carbon dioxide. There is a simple reason behind it and that reason is oxygen is air which is required by our body to perform various tasks and carbon dioxide is air which our body does not requires. Therefore, carbon dioxide is expelled out of our body and oxygen is used by our body. Let's understand with the help of an example :- When we eat food we remove the unwanted part and our body similarly removes the unwanted air which is carbon dioxide from our body.
