Cooking utensils are made up of metal (good conductors of heat). So, if we touch them directly we will get hurt. So, we use insulators (bad conductors of heat) such as wood and plastic.

hey dear firstly i want to say that we use bakelite plastic not all kind of plastic
and this is used bcz it is bad conductor of heat and not easilt melt .by the contact of fire and it easy to handle.wood is also like that it also not melt and heate easily.
