A major disadvantage of the linear model is that often this model can isolate people who should be involved from the line of communication. As a result they may miss out on vital information and the opportunity to contribute ideas. To provide a real world example of this I draw on my work experience at Kuvio Creative, a full-service web design and development company where all work is done remotely. We try as often as possible to try to communicate in messaging channels that everyone has access to, rather than in private messaging. This prevents people from having to go back and explain something if someone wasn’t included in the original messages and allows more people to share their ideas. This is an example of a time where linear communication would not be as successful.
