It is Up Helly Aa today, the first Tuesday in January. The raven banner is flying at the town hall. Through the day there will be processions, further preparations and music, the Fiery Sessions run this afternoon into the early evening. The main event, the Up Helly Aa procession will be 7-8:30pm this evening - by torchlight.

The Jarl and Jarl squad walk 'up the ranks' around 7:15 pm and the procession lights up at 7:30. The route takes the Galley and the Guizers to the burning site, nearly 1000 people with their fire torches in darkness, as the street lights are turned off.
