E. Give reasons for the following statements.
1. Solid, liquid and gases are considered as matter not sound.
2. On heating a sublimable solid, the inter particles attraction is overcome.
3. On heating a solid at its melting point, heat energy is converted to
to potential energy.
4. In solidification, intermolecular space decreases.
5. In ammonium chloride, the intermolecular force of attraction is low.

1.Sound is not considered as matter as it does have any mass nor does it occupies space .

2.On heating the temperature of the solid rises so the kinetic energy of the particles also increases and they start moving faster by overcoming their forces of atttraction.

3.On heating the solid the heat is used up in overcoming the forces of attraction .

4.Solidification is process of conversion of a liquid into a solid state by decreasing the intermolecular spaces present in between the particles.

5.Ammochloride undergoes sublimation i.e it can be directly converted into gaseous state and there it has less intermolecular spaces betn them .

hope it helps.....

Explanation:

1.We can measure mass of matter, that is of solid, liquid and gases but we can't do it in case of sound it is in form of ways.

2.On heating sublimable solid the heat energy is utilize to break the bonds between particles, that is why the inter particle attraction is overcome.

3.Heat energy used here is in form of potential energy, which is used to weak chemical bonds.

4.In solid state the atoms densely arrange that's why the intermolecular force decreases.

5.NH4Cl(Ammonia chloride) is form by covalent bonds that's why the intermolecular attraction force is less.
