Commemorating the birth day of great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Department of Mathematics at Shantiniketan Indian School took initiative to observe the day with true spirit and enthusiasm. Maths is, forever, an integrated part of life and is also known as the mother of all sciences. In order to celebrate this facet, the school had taken initiative to celebrate Maths Day on 22nd December, 2013. Through an array of quiz, speech and display boards, they celebrated with gusto – the Maths Day.

The idea behind the celebration was to give an opportunity to the students to enhance their numerical and thinking skills. The event began with a short speech on Ramanujan’s life and his contribution to mathematics narrating the fascinating works of the great mathematician. School math teacher Mrs. Afshan delivered the introductory speech followed by the quiz competition. Students representing various houses competed in different categories where Blue house emerged over all winners securing first positions in III and IV categories while Yellow house stood first in I and II categories.

Prarthana Sudeep, Ashiq Sunil, Soorya Krishnamurthy and Bushra represented Blue House in senior category while Meera Antony, Reshma Subaraj and Kidher Rahman won in III category.

Mohammed Shihab, Mohammed Abdul Rahman and faraz Riyas represented Yellow House in II category. Dhwani Patel, Indrani Karmakar, Fathima Hebba, Mohammed Midlaj and Ziyaan Shakeer were the winners in category I.

School principal Dr. Subhash Nair appreciated the effort taken by the department and congratulated all winners for their commendable performance. He also distributed the trophies to the winners.
