The ideas followed by the Upanishadic thinkers had certain distinction from that of the fatalists and the materialists

The following were the ideas followed by Upanishadic thinkers:

  • They believed in the reality of God and Soul.
  • They were inquisitive to know the meaning of life, the probability of life after death and rebirth.
  • They learnt the significance of performing sacrifice which according to them would bring good health, longer life etc.
  • They firmly believed in performing good Karma and good penance .

The following were the ideas followed by Fatalists thinkers:

  •  The Fatalists were associated to the Ajinika tradition.
  • They thought that everything is decided before.
  • They did not believe in performing penance. According to them penance does guarantee good karmas nor does it help in avoiding  bad karmas.
  • They believed that pleasure and pain cannot be changed nor can be lessened or increased during the  course of transmigration.

The following were the ideas followed by Materialist thinkers:

  • The Materialist thinkers were associated to the Lokayats traditions.
  • They had no faith in offerings, alms or sacrifice.

Answer:

Yes, there were differences based on the interpretation of life and the perspective.

Explanation:

The Upanishadic thinkers believed in that there was existence of life even after one dies and that everything is a result of our actions or karma.

The Fatalists believed in a pre-determined destiny.

The materialists believed that we are composed of four elements and after death these elements go back to the earth so there is no concept of life after death according to them.
