Whales and dolphins are seen many times releasing a fountain of water sometimes at the surface of water . Why do they do so ?​

Whales and dolphins often comes up to the water surface. They even release a fountain of water sometimes while moving upwards because the water from their passage come upwards which appears like fountain. They come upwards to take in fresh air.

Whales and dolphins while in water take in water through there mouth .

For intake of oxygen and food they take oxygen and food from water and throw out the remaining water.
