It's a classic example of riddle.
Initially it's a 5 letter word then how is it even possible to be 6 after deducting 2 letters? Number of letters should be (5-2) = 3
Now read again carefully there is no indication that after removing 2 letters there are 6 letters left... it states that there is only '6' left which can be written as 'SIX' which consists 3 letters.
Thus the first 3 letters of the word is S I X _ _
Now think about any words with six in its beginning!!
