Answer:

Explanation:

Osmosis is the flow of water down its concentration gradient, across a semi-permeable membrane. Osmosis is an example of diffusion, which is when molecules tend to distribute themselves evenly in a space.

The three types of osmotic conditions that affect living cells are called hypertonic, hypotonic, and isotonic states. These terms describe the osmotic state of the solution that surrounds a cell, not the solution inside the cell. Hypertonic conditions cause water to diffuse out of the cell, making the cell shrivel.

Osmosis:

Osmosis is the spontaneous movement of molecules through a semi-permeable membrane from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration.

Types of osmosis:

1) Endosmosis: Movement of molecules from outside to inside of a cell through osmosis. For example, when a cell is placed in a Hypotonic Solution.

2) Exosmosis: Movement of molecules from inside to outside a cell through osmosis. For example, when a cell is placed in a Hypertonic Solution.

Diffusion:

The intermixing of different types of matter on their own is known as diffusion..

Example : When you open a bottle of perfume in one corner, the particles move randomly in all directions and mix with other gas particles in the air, thus reaching to our nose.
