Alexander Hamilton was the first secretary of treasury in America. He believed that a national bank would increase the flow of money throughout the country and keep the states from competing with each other.

It would bring stability to the American Economy and bring it out of the post- Revolutionary depression.

In times of need it could lend money to the federal government and provide credit facilities to investors, farmers and businessmen.
