Almost 90% of the Earth's carbon is found in the interior of the planet. In 2009, a team of scientists launched what is today known as the Deep Carbon Observatory (DCO)-a global community of scientists that has been on a 10-year journey to understand the movements, forms and origins of carbon inside the Earth.
