It is a leaf that bears sprongia. In ferns sporophylls are the normal foilage leaves but in the other plants the sporophylls are modified and arise in specialized structure such as the strobil of clubmosses, horsetails and gymnosperms and the flower of angiosperm. Most plants produce spores of 2 different sizes(small microspore and large megaspore).
