What about sugar and salt ? When kept in different jars these take the space of the jar. Are they solid?

Yes they are most likely solids expect they have these properties of liquid.They are most likely placed in between solids and liquids.But if we zoom into a single particle of sugar or salt we can observe them as a crystal solid which has its definite shape&volume,non compressible........So they are a type of special solids.....
