I was extremely happy when Dr Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen (APJ) Abdul Kalam, the then President of India, accepted my invitation to inaugurate Biocon Park in 2006. He was very happy to know that Biocon Park was India's largest integrated cluster of research laboratories and manufacturing facilities for producing cutting-edge biopharmaceutical products. Speaking at the event, he had exhorted all of us at Biocon to focus our R&D efforts on novel drug discovery to come up with two new molecules - one for cancer and another for inflammatory diseases. I am proud to say that Biocon was able to realize Dr Kalam’s dream for the company and launch two novel biopharmaceutical products for the benefit of cancer and psoriasis patients in India.
