Wanda was a simple, polite, and courteous girl who belonged a family of mediocre means. She usually wore a faded blue dress that had lots of fold on it, as if not ironed properly.

Making fun of this, Peggy would tauntingly ask Wanda, “How many dresses she did she have in her closet?”

Not minding the sarcasm, Wanda would reply, “A hundred.”

What Wanda actually meant was she had drawn paintings and drawings of hundred dresses and kept them in a closet.

Explanation:

I think Wanda enjoyed playing the 'Game of Hundred Dresses'. She comes to school wearing a faded blue dress regularly. One day Peggy asked her about her dresses. Wanda replied that she had a hundred dresses in the closet. But she did not realise that they are making fun of her. Wanda never felt embarrassed at their insults and mockery. The interest which Wanda expressed in describing the Hundred Dresses shows that she enjoyed the game.
