What advantage do plants get by having mostly dead cells

Generally there cells are dead because they have to face severe condition like temperature, rain, wind ,etc.. so as to protect their cells from getting damaged they are mostly dead but if they had living cells then the cells suicidal bag can burst to avoid such conditions its mostly dead cell
