Silk is much superior to cotton in terms of quality, texture, drape, beauty etc. There are many advantages to using silk, that no cotton or other types of materials could match. It is the grandest of all fabrics. The following factors make silk unique :

Silk, when worn or felt gives one the most wonderful feeling of grace, elegance, lustre and softness. The tenacity of silk is much better than cotton so its threads are not easily broken and it lasts longer. Due its softness,  silk is more suited to people with sensitive skin whereas cotton is rough. While cotton absorbs the moisture from our skin, silk retains the moisture by absorbing it through the amino acids present in silk.

Silk regulates the body heat too whereby it keeps us warm in winter and cool in summer. Silk is also more fire resistant than cotton. It does not catch fire easily. Silk is also less abrasive than cotton due to its soft texture.
