Aquatic animals get oxygen in dissolved form whereas terrestrial organisms get oxygen directly from atmosphere. Thus the rate of breathing in aquatic animals is fast than the terrestrial ones.

♤The amount of oxygen dissolved in water is fairly low as compared to the amount of oxygen present in air.

♤ the rate of breathing in aquatic organisms is much faster than that seen in terrestrial organisms.

♤ Fishes take in water through there mouth and force it past the gills where the dissolved oxygen is taken up by the blood.
