Terrestrial organisms can take oxygen directly from their surroundings but this advantage aquatic animals don't have.they have to create in the oxygen dissolved in water..

♤The amount of oxygen dissolved in water is fairly low as compared to the amount of oxygen present in air.

♤ the rate of breathing in aquatic organisms is much faster than that seen in terrestrial organisms.

♤ Fishes take in water through there mouth and force it past the gills where the dissolved oxygen is taken up by the blood.
